Jared Doyle and Kathleen MacDonald began photographing weddings together in 2018. Kathleen says they have a similar style but also possess different complimentary elements in their art. They are both passionate about love and commitment.
They set up shop in Fall of last year after being asked on various occasions previously to shoot weddings here and there. After travelling to Vancouver, BC to photograph a friend’s wedding (in the torrential pouring rain) they decided it was time to create some structure in their business of shooting weddings. They put their heads together and came up with a brand that spoke to both of them. As photographers, they are witnesses to a lot of things. Kathleen says that weddings are intimate (no matter how many guests attend) and it’s an honour to be witnesses of these special and sometimes very private moments - hence the business name. They are witnessing love and documenting weddings.
They are wedding day documenters and true love witnesses. They provide candid-like wedding day coverage for couples on the east coast.
They are based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, but travel for various assignments (especially within the maritimes). Jared and Kathleen have a shared creative space in Charlottetown that they use for honing their passions, such post-production work, meeting with & photographing our clients. They say It’s a great addition to their business and helps them to build trust with their clients.
They shoot mostly weddings and engagements, couples, and mini family sessions.
They have two wedding packages for couples to choose from, and a list of add-on services as well.
Their first package is suitable for elopements and intimate events with a duration of 1-4 hours. This package includes a consultation, coverage of the ceremony, focused couple/wedding party session, and family. $1500, 125+ digital image files.
Their second package is suitable for larger wedding events with a duration of 5-8 hours. This package includes a consultation, engagement session, coverage of bridal prep (0.5 hours), ceremony, focused couple/wedding party session, family, and details. $2500, 225+ digital image files.
Their wedding day add-ons include:
Extended pre-ceremony/prep (bride&groom or extended bride) $150
First look and/or private vows: $50
Cocktail hour: $150
Pop up photo booth (guest photos): $200
Engagement session: $275
Trash-the-dress session: $275
Studio bridal boudoir session: $225
Their post-production timeline is fast. They generally deliver their final wedding galleries within 2-5 weeks of the wedding event. They also kindly deliver a preview gallery to their clients as soon as possible after the wedding as it is important to them that clients have high-quality images to share shortly afterward.
One thing that is different about us, is that we are no longer providing coverage for formal receptions. In our experience, the images captured during this part of a wedding event are never the most important to our couples. We would rather not take up space in their final galleries with images they will only glance at once or twice. We focus our energy on creating beautifully memorable and romantic moments under ideal lighting. Our couples can “add-on” a cocktail hour which is sometimes synonymous with other types of receptions. Our clients can discuss with us what their vision for their wedding gallery will be, and we will do what we can to achieve just that. - Kathleen
Kathleen also have an Intimate Portrait Business called The Guestroom. She specializes in women’s portraiture. She believes this strength is best utilized in bridal portraits (generally during the pre-ceremony portion of the day). Kathleen says she has improved dramatically over the last few years in posing her clients (women and couples) and has learned over time many prompts to create an “unposed” appearance to her images.
She says, Jared is incredibly skilled at capturing candid moments and generally has his hands on a zoom lens during wedding events.
It’s extremely important to us that our couples have a seamless wedding day. Though we are wedding photographers, we don’t want their wedding day to be 100% about having photos taken. We try to be flies on the wall as much as possible so that we aren’t interfering with the exclusivity of the most special day of their lives. But, when we do need to coordinate and pose for certain shots, we are efficient, patient, and descriptive with our prompts and instructions.
Our advice to future brides and grooms is to relax and enjoy your day. This is your love story - It only happens once. Let your photographers capture those special candid moments as a priority. Those are the most special memories.
Prince Edward Island is growing every year in popularity as a wedding destination. There are so many incredible creators based on the island. Kathleen says they are delighted to be a part of the wedding industry and experience all that it has to offer.
Meeting so many beautiful souls and capturing the essence of their love and connection is undeniably inspiring. We feel so uplifted every time we get to hear two people solidify their commitments to each other with “I do.”
